Summary
Pierce County is soliciting bids from firms to result in the purchase of an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Bomb Response Vehicle, for use by the County Sheriff’s Office Hazardous Response Unit (Bomb Squad). The vehicle will be completed and delivered to Pierce County Department of Emergency Management no later than July 15th, 2027.
Background
The use of explosives is one of the main tools used by domestic violent extremists to cause terror and disruption. Hazardous Device Units are the front-line defense in rendering explosive devices safe. The EOD Bomb Response Vehicle will transport, tow, and deploy bomb disposal equipment safely, efficiently, and effectively in the Seattle Urban Area (UA). This activity meets Homeland Security Grant Program (HSGP)'s Law Enforcement Terrorism Prevention Activities (LETPA) requirement because Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE) Incident Response Vehicles are allowable equipment items articled in IB 485 and the FY 2007 Law Enforcement Terrorism Prevention Program Guidance. The intervention equipment has a Law Enforcement terrorism prevention nexus as it will be used by Law Enforcement officers for anti-terrorism activities such bomb disposal during a Domestic Violent Extremism (DVE) incident.
